Ġarra tal-ħalib / Stainless-steel milk churn

Il-ġarra tal-ħalib li kienet tkun stainless steel, fejn il-mogħoż u n-nagħaġ wara li jinħalbu kienu ifergħu il-ħalib bil-barmil ġewwa il-ġarra biex dak iż-żmien kien jittieħed jew bil-karrettun jew inkella b’xi van lejn “Milk Marketing Unit” fil-Ħamrun, inkella fil-każ ta’ Għawdex ġewwa ir-Rabat. Il-ġarra tall-istainless steel kienet iżżomm il-ħalib frisk sakemm jitwassal għand l-MMU, fejn kien ikun ippasturiżżat sabiex ikun jista jintela fil-fliexken tal-ħġieġ, jew inkella kienu jagħmlu l-ġbejniet billi jużaw it-tames sabiex jgħaqqad il-ġbejna. Illum hemm proċeduri moderni u differenti mill-proċeduri tal-antik. Fuq l-għatu tal-ġarra hemm imniżżel is-sena tal-manifattura tal-ġarra li jġib is-sena “1980”.

The goats and sheep milk is poured from the bucket into this churn so that it can be taken on a cart or a van to the “Milk Marketing Unit” in Ħamrun, or in the case of Gozo, Rabat. The stainless-steel churn would keep the milk fresh until it arrives to the MMU, where it would be pasteurised and then put in glass bottles, or made into cheeselets. Nowadays there are different and modern procedures. On the lid of the churn there is the year of manufacture which is 1980.
